Former plantation land was turned into what is now known as the Riverside neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. The neighborhood is found to the west of US Highway 17 and on the banks of the St. Johns River. Great shopping is found nearby at the Shoppes of Avondale. This shopping center is in a neighboring community and considered one of the best upscale shopping centers in Jacksonville. About 46 shops are found here with plenty of great options. It was first developed in the 1920s, but was recently renovated in 2010.
